Event 3: LACMA
Event 3: LACMA
For my third event, I decided to go check out LACMA because I've always seen pictures of the lights outside but have also heard of all the amazing artwork and pieces inside. The drive from campus isn't too far but once you get there and see all the art you realize it is well worth it.
At the time that I went, there were a lot of exhibits and art to be seen. However, two exhibits stood out the most to me as we were walking through. First, was James Turrell's Light Reignfall. Unfortunately I was not able to go inside the "light sphere" but heard people talking about how amazing it was. One at a time, a person lays a narrow bed and slides in a big spherical ball the emits different light. Each person that came out was wowed by the experience and was something I was hoping to do. Second, was the Rain Room. I had seen so many pictures and scenes from movies from this room but it really was something else in person. When you walk in the room, it is all dark and just water falling from the ceiling. The way it works is when you walk underneath the rain, it detects when someone is there and it stops just where you are. It was about a 10-15 minute experience until you're ushered out. Walking through the water (or lack thereof) was just a very surreal moment because you're expecting to have water fall on you but you don't feel a drop. If someone wants to go to the LACMA, this is the one exhibit I would recommend people go to.
As we continued to walk around the museum we could see the multitude of artwork and other sculptures. Of course, you can't go to the LACMA without touring the lights and art on the outside (which is all free too see). There were a lot of people outside taking pictures with the lights. It's so cool to see all the angles people take pictures from because there are so many perspectives for something seemingly so basic. All in all, I think this was my favorite event that I went to just because of how interactive the museum was. I would definitely recommend anyone in the Los Angeles area to go visit if you haven't already.
